To connect a router, follow these steps. This applies to most home routers (Wi-Fi):
🔌 1. Connect the Hardware
- Turn off the modem (if you have one).
- Connect modem to router:
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect the modem’s LAN/Internet port to the router’s WAN (Internet) port.
- Power on the modem, then the router.
- Wait a few minutes for them to start up fully.
📱 2. Connect Your Device to the Router
- Via Wi-Fi: Look for the default Wi-Fi name (SSID) on a label on the router. Use the default password to connect.
- Via Ethernet: Connect your PC/laptop to any LAN port on the router using an Ethernet cable.
🌐 3. Access Router Settings
- Open a web browser.
- In the address bar, type the router’s IP address. Usually:
192.168.0.1
- or
192.168.1.1
(You’ll find the exact IP on the router’s label or manual.)
- Enter the username and password. Default is often:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin or password
⚙️ 4. Configure the Router
- Use the setup wizard or manual settings to:
- Set your Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password
- Choose your security settings (WPA2/WPA3)
