Install Windows 11 on a Desktop

To install Windows 11 on a desktop PC, follow these steps:


System Requirements (Check First)

Before proceeding, ensure your PC meets Windows 11 minimum requirements:

  • Processor: 1 GHz or faster with 2+ cores, 64-bit compatible
  • RAM: 4 GB or more
  • Storage: 64 GB or more
  • UEFI with Secure Boot
  • TPM version 2.0
  • DirectX 12-compatible graphics
  • Internet connection for setup

🧰 What You Need

  1. A USB drive (8 GB or more)
  2. A second PC (optional, for creating installation media)
  3. Windows 11 ISO or Media Creation Tool

📥 Step 1: Download Windows 11

Go to the official Microsoft site:

Options:

  • Use Media Creation Tool (easiest for bootable USB)
  • Or download ISO file to manually create installation media

🔧 Step 2: Create Bootable USB

Use the Media Creation Tool, or use a tool like Rufus (for ISO method).

Using Media Creation Tool:

  1. Run it and choose "Create installation media (USB flash drive)"
  2. Select language and edition
  3. Choose your USB drive
  4. Let it create the bootable drive

💻 Step 3: Boot from USB

  1. Plug the USB into your desktop
  2. Restart and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually press F2, F10, DEL, or ESC during boot)
  3. Set USB as first boot device
  4. Save and exit BIOS

🛠️ Step 4: Install Windows 11

  1. PC will boot into the Windows 11 installer
  2. Select language > Click “Install Now”
  3. Choose “I don’t have a product key” (if you want to activate later)
  4. Select Windows edition
  5. Choose Custom: Install Windows only
  6. Select your main drive > Format if needed
  7. Click Next — installation begins

🔄 Step 5: Post-Install Setup

  • Set up region, keyboard, Microsoft account, privacy settings
  • Windows will finish setting up

🧩 Optional: Install Drivers & Updates

Once installed:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update to get the latest updates
  • Install drivers from your motherboard/GPU manufacturer (if needed)
